Uganda is Africa's largest coffee exporter — and uniquely, the home of Robusta. Wild Coffea canephora (Robusta) is indigenous to Uganda's Lake Victoria basin, making Uganda the only country in the world that can claim Robusta as its own native bean.

Robusta accounts for around 75–80% of Uganda's total production, grown in the fertile lowlands ringing Lake Victoria at 900–1,500 m. In 1914, foreign settlers introduced Arabica to the higher altitudes — the volcanic soils of Mt. Elgon in the east and the Rwenzori foothills in the west — where cooler temperatures and greater altitude create the conditions Arabica needs. Both varieties thrive, and both carry Uganda's story. Smallholder farmers, most working just one to three hectares, produce over 90% of the national harvest.

In the lowlands, Robusta delivers a bold, full-bodied cup with natural crema and earthy depth — ideal for espresso and traditional brewing. On the highlands, Mt. Elgon's Arabica is bright and floral; the Rwenzori range — the legendary "Mountains of the Moon" — adds stone fruit, dark chocolate, and a long, sweet finish. Together they give Ubuntu Coffee its range: from powerful single-origin Robusta to delicate highland Arabica.
